Aspects of this class

This class focuses on all aspects of writing.  Writing becomes more and more important in life as children grow older, so I hope to be able to prepare each student to not only succeed, but also flourish in their future writing environments.  We will learn different types of writing and get down to the basics to help them become effective writers.

The three parts of this class are grammar, spelling, and composition.  Most of the time is devoted to grammar, while Wednesdays are spelling days, and occasional composition/writing assignments will also occur.

We like to have fun in my class!  Special guests, such as Super Noun visit to help teach students about different parts of speech.  Keep an eye out for more visitors in the future (follow LCS on Facebook to get full posts and videos here and there) that will come to spend time with classes.

Spelling

Each week students will receive a spelling pre-test, usually on Wednesdays.  Their score for this test will not count unless they get all the answers correct.  This test merely serves as a way to show students which words they struggle with and what they will need to focus on most for the test, I will not even be collecting it, so there is no embarrassment for not knowing any words.  Students will be assigned two spelling-related assignments for the week: definitions for all 20 words (2 bonus words will be added to each list to bring the total to 20 words) due the next day, and one worksheet that is not due until the following Wednesday.  After students have had their lists for a week, the final spelling test will take place at the beginning of the class period and all scores will be counted.  All lists can be found below and can also be found on Spelling City, a website that can be used to help students learn the words in a variety of ways such as playing different games.  The weekly assignments are also linked below, in PDF form.
